In 1953, Harry Harvey, the Orange County Register civic editor at the time, started the Orange County Press Club in his living room. The club’s mission is to promote, defend, and support quality journalism in and around Southern California.

The club, whose members include journalists, editors, public relations professionals, publishers, and journalism students, carries out its mission by organizing regular networking events in which its members can discuss issues that affect their profession.

The Orange County Press Club also offers scholarships to individuals who have a passion for journalism and helps them get their feet into the business once they complete their studies. Additionally, the club holds an annual awards ceremony in which the best writers and journalists are recognized for their exceptional work.
